Booklet printing, magazine printing and saddle stitch

Magazines, programs, catalogues and zines are all the same product: a saddle-stitched booklet.

• Saddle stitch is two staples through the folded spine, for books of 8 to 136 pages
• We square the spine so the book sits flat, and set it to suit each book
• The cover is on the same stock as the inside pages (self-cover), which keeps the price down
• It suits event programs, price lists, annual reports, training manuals, zines and short-run magazines

Choosing booklets

How to pick the size, paper, page count and run for your booklets.

• A5 suits event programs and pocket guides
• A4 suits catalogues, training manuals and company profiles
• A4 landscape suits menus, look books and photo-heavy books
• Square gives equal width and height, for photo-led layouts

• Matt has no shine. Gloss makes colour and photos stand out
• 150gsm reads as a magazine, 170gsm as a quality program and 200gsm as a heavier brochure
• Uncoated 90 or 100gsm has a plain paper feel and takes pen
• Recycled 135gsm is uncoated, with some texture
• For a heavier cover on lighter inside pages, get a quote

• Count every page, including the front and back cover
• Each folded sheet makes 4 pages, so a 24-page booklet is 6 sheets
• We square the spine to suit each book, so it sits flat. No adhesive is used

• The press setup costs about the same for 50 or 1,000 booklets, so the price per booklet falls as the run grows
• The Save tags show the saving per booklet against a run of 25

Our staff in Fremantle review every file before it is sent to the printer.

• One print-ready PDF, with every page in reading order and 3mm bleed
• Send single pages in order, not pre-imposed spreads. Our print software sets up the pages for folding
• An A5 page is 154 × 216mm with bleed. An A4 page is 216 × 303mm
• We also accept AI and packaged InDesign files on request

• If the page count is not a multiple of 4, we can usually add blank pages. We contact you before we change your file
