Choosing a board

How to pick the foam colour and the size.

10mm White Foam: a white edge around the print. The cleanest look for full-bleed prints
10mm Black Foam: a dark edge around the print. Suits dark-toned prints, and portfolio pieces where the edge is part of the design
10mm holds its shape at A0 without bowing
Foamboard is heavier than card and lighter than MDF

A3 and A2 suit award displays, presentation boards and small exhibition pieces
A1 is the usual size for gallery prints
A0 suits exhibition stands and feature displays

Below A3, laminating suits better: foamboard adds weight but no useful rigidity at small sizes

What is the difference between foamboard and MDF mounting?

Foamboard is paper-faced rigid foam core, 10mm thick, light enough to hang on a pin or thumbtack. MDF is a 9mm timber panel laminated with a matt finish, heavy and durable enough for long-life or higher-traffic environments. Foamboard suits exhibition and short-medium-term display; MDF suits permanent or semi-permanent display.

Do you print the artwork, or do I supply it?

We print the artwork as part of the job. Upload your print-ready file at checkout and we handle printing, mounting, and trimming. If you would rather supply your own flat, dry, trim-ready print, drop it to 63 Queen Victoria St, Fremantle and we will dry-mount it for the per-panel price shown above; ask for the mount-only rate when you order.

White or black foam?

White foam is the gallery-standard backing. The white edge reads as a thin frame around the print and gives the cleanest reveal of full-bleed prints. Black foam reads as a deeper, more deliberate edge and is the right pick for dark-toned prints or for portfolio pieces where the framing edge is part of the visual treatment.

How do I hang a foamboard mount?

Tick wall hooks in the configurator and we fit hooks to the back of the board, ready to hang on your wall, at no extra cost. Without hooks, a single pin, thumbtack or Velcro tab through the board holds any size up to A1. For A0, two pins at the top corners or a French cleat is more reliable.

Is foamboard weatherproof?

No. Foamboard is indoor-only; the paper face delaminates if it gets wet and the foam core soaks. For outdoor or covered-outdoor signage, see corflute signs or aluminium signs in the signage range.
