Will my image print sharp?
Drop in your image, or enter its pixel size. The table shows the sizes it prints sharp at. Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
DPI (dots per inch) is how many image pixels fall in each inch of the print. Our guide is 300 DPI for A3 and smaller, and 150 DPI for posters A2 and larger. Large posters are seen from further away, so they need fewer pixels for each inch. More on this in the Artwork Setup Guide.

How A sizes work
The A sizes are an international standard (ISO 216). Australia and most countries use them. The US and Canada use Letter sizes instead.
- 1
A0 is one square metre
841 × 1189 mm. Every other A size is a fraction of it: A1 is a half, A2 a quarter, and A4 one sixteenth. - 2
Each size is half the one above
Cut an A3 sheet across its long side and you get two A4 sheets. Cut an A4 sheet and you get two A5 sheets. - 3
Every A size has the same shape
The long side is always 1.41 times the short side (the square root of 2). A design made for A4 scales to A3 or A1 with nothing cut off.

Questions
- What size is A4 in mm?
- A4 is 210 × 297 mm, or 8.3 × 11.7 inches. It is the standard size for letters, reports and printer paper in Australia.
- What size is A3?
- A3 is 297 × 420 mm, or 11.7 × 16.5 inches. It is two A4 sheets side by side.
- Is A3 twice the size of A4?
- Yes. A3 has twice the area of A4. Each side is 1.41 times longer, so to enlarge an A4 design to A3 on a copier, set it to 141%.
- What is the biggest A size?
- A0, at 841 × 1189 mm. Its area is one square metre. Larger sizes such as 2A0 exist but are rare. We print signs and plans up to A0, and make larger signs and banners to size.
- What size is DL?
- DL is 99 × 210 mm, one third of an A4 sheet. A DL flyer or an A4 sheet folded in three fits a DL envelope (110 × 220 mm).
- What size is a business card in Australia?
- The Australian standard business card is 90 × 55 mm. Set up your file at 96 × 61 mm. The extra 3 mm on each side is bleed: background that runs past the edge and is trimmed off.
- Is A4 the same as US Letter?
- No. US Letter is 216 × 279 mm (8.5 × 11 inches). It is wider and shorter than A4. Set files for Australian printing to A4.
- What resolution does my image need?
- DPI (dots per inch) is how many image pixels fall in each inch of the print. Images need 300 DPI at the printed size for A3 and smaller. Posters A2 and larger need 150 DPI, because they are seen from further away.
